Afghan Air Force conducts 12 strikes on insurgents daily

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Thursday said that the Afghan Air Force (AAF) is conducting at least twelve air strikes on insurgent strongholds on a daily basis across the country and that these strikes have been constructive in tackling militants.

Defense Minister Tariq Shah Bahrami meanwhile said that the Afghan army is fully capable of defending Afghanistan’s sovereignty and the people.

“This is an army which is capable of defending the national values and geography of the country and will protect its people,” said Bahrami.

Meanwhile, general John Nicholson, the commander of US forces in Afghanistan has reaffirmed support to the government forces, reiterating that the militants will not be able to win on the battlefield.

He said that the international community is supporting the Afghan security forces and that the enemy will win on the military front.

“This sends the strongest possible message to the enemies of peace that they cannot outlast the international community and especially they cannot outlast the Afghan people and their desire for peace. The international community is also committed to the needs of your people in addition to your security forces,” said Nicholson.

According to the defense ministry, the Afghan Air Force conducts over a hundred flights across the country on a daily basis which also involve strikes against insurgents.

“The Afghan air force conducts over a hundred transportation and support missions daily—from the figure, eight to twelve are air strikes which are carried out by these forces,” said the defense ministry’s spokesman Mohammad Radmanish.

Efforts are underway to expand the structure of Afghan Air Force three fold as it is one of the key elements of supporting ground forces.
