24 people arrested over deadly Kabul hospital attack

24 people have been arrested in connection with Kabul military hospital attack, including Afghan generals, the Defense ministry said Wednesday.

Addressing a news conference in Kabul, Gen. Helaluddin Helal, the deputy minister of defense for strategic and intelligence affairs said that the arrests were for a variety of charges, including negligence, incompetence, and complicity.

Helal Revealed the findings of a preliminary investigation into the March 8 attack on the Sardar Mohammad Khan hospital in Kabul.

The Defense officials admitted that at least 50 people were killed in the attack that claimed by the Islamic State (IS) group.

The attack involved five terrorists, one of whom detonated explosive-packed car and four others entered, Helal said.

The reports have quoted survivors and security sources as saying interns working at the hospital helped carry out the attack. However, Helal said that was no evidence to prove that insiders were involved in the assault but they still working to find if insiders were involved.
The deputy defense minister further said that the militants initially tried to target specialists who were in a meeting, but failed.

In part of his speech, the defense official also described that the attackers were Afghan and foreign citizens, he claimed that the attack was planned outside the country and the founded-evidences in regard were sent to Intelligence Agency for further investigation.

According to Defense ministry, the Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan hospital has 2,000 staff and it has over 4,000 clients daily.
