Russia has sent more than a dozen attack planes to Syria amid devastating civil war going on across the country since 2011.
The new satellite image providing solid evidence of Russia’s arms delivery to Syria comes amid a rapid Russian military build-up in the country.
At 16 warplanes lined-up on a runway at a government airbase near the coastal city of Latakia are shown in the satellite image.
According to the Aviationist, the fleet includes at least 12 Su-25 Frogfoot attack lined up next to the four Russian Air Force Su-30SM multirole combat planes.
A Syrian military official confirmed on Tuesday that Damascus recently received a fresh batch of arms from Russia, including at least five fighter planes, which they have deployed against ISIS fighters.
The official further added that sophisticated military equipment including targeting equipment and precision-guided missiles were also delivered by Russia to fight the Islamic State.
At least 38 ISIS fighters were killed on Monday in air strikes in jihadist-held towns in central Syria with the new Russian equipment used in the raids, according the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Rami Abdel Rahman, the director of the Observatory, said “The number of raids is growing and the strikes are more precise after the Syrian air force received arms and more efficient planes from Moscow.”
More than 240,000 have been killed since the start of the unrest which led to a devastating civil war in 2011 with Moscow remaining an unwavering supporter of Bashar Al-Assad.
