Iraqi Air Force targets ISIS leader al-Baghdadi’s convoy

The Iraqi military announced Sunday that the convoy of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was hit in airstrike.

According to a statement by the Iraqi military, the airstrike was carried out in western Anbar province, near the Syrian border.

“Iraqi air forces have bombed the convoy of the terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi while he was heading to Karabla to attend a meeting with Daesh [ISIS] commanders,” the statement read.

The statement further added “The location of the meeting was also bombed and many of the group’s leaders were killed and wounded. The fate of the murderer al-Baghdadi is unknown and he was carried away by a vehicle. His health condition is still unclear.”

Although the fate of al-Baghdadi remains unknown, hospital sources and the local residents have said numerous ISIS leaders were killed in the raid but al-Baghdadi was not among them.

A spokesman for Iraq’s Ministry of Interior Saad Maan confirmed that the airstrike was carried out at midday on Saturday.

This comes as a report emerged late in April this year suggesting that al-Baghdadi was seriously wounded in an airstrike in western part of Iraq in the month of March.
