Afghanistan’s troops to train in China’

China will train Afghan troops on Chinese soil, Afghanistan’s ambassador to Beijing said on Thursday.

The military cooperation will be part of an effort to fight Al-Qaeda and Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) militants bent on attacking China from its western neighbor, Ambassador Janan Mosazai told Reuters.

Kabul has also requested that China provide Afghan security forces with combat helicopters.

ISIS attack repulsed in North of Afghanistan, 9 militants killed, 13 wounded

A major attack by the militants affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria /ISIS) terrorist group was repulsed in northern Jawzjan province of Afghanistan, leaving several militants dead or wounded.

The 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Arnmy in thr North said a large group of ISIS militants launched a large scale attack in Darzad district but their attack was repulsed by the security forces.

The source further added that nine militants were killed and thirteen others were wounded after the Afghan forces responded to the militants attack.

According to Shaheen Corps, the attack was launched on security posts of the Afghan National defense and security forces but did not elaborate further if the Afghan forces suffered any casualty or not.

The anti-government armed militant and terrorist groups have not commented regarding the report so far.

Insider attacks persist in Afghan Military despite ‘strict’ measures

Recently, four intelligence operatives have reportedly gunned down their 16 colleagues before fleeing to join the Taliban insurgency in the southern Helmand province.

The insider attack has occurred in a facility linked to the National Directorate of Security (NDS) in Yakhchal area of the Gerishk district.

Najib Danish, the Interior Ministry Spokesman on Monday confirmed the incident, but saying that the level of insider attacks have been decreased in Afghan military. He stressed they have taken strict measures by “comprehensively” investigating the background of each and every individual in the recruitment process.

“Every person who gets into the Defense Ministry is being passed through biometric system, and being checked by a doctor and intelligence & detective authorities,” said the Defense Ministry Spokesman Dawlat Waziri.

335 acres of land cleared of opium poppy by Afghan forces in Nangarhar

At least 335 acres of land cultivated with opium poppy were cleared during the ongoing eradication campaign in eastern Nangarhar province.

According to the local government officials, the campaign was conducted in the vicinity of Ghani Khel, Chaparhar, and Khogyani districts.

The officials further added that 110 acres of land were cleared of opium poppy in Chaparhar, 100 acres of land were cleared in Ghani Khel, and 125 acres of land were cleared in Khogyani district.

The local officials are saying that the campaign is jointly being conducted by the Afghan police, Afghan army, and the Afghan intelligence operatives and the eradication will continue until all areas are fully cleared of opium.

6,785 Afghan troops martyred till mid-November and 11,777 wounded

At least 6,785 personnel of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) lost their lives until mid-November last year, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) John Sopko said in his latest report.

Citing the Afghan government figures provided to US Forces for Afghanistan (USFOR-A), Sopko said at least 11,777 ANDSF personnel were also wounded during the same period.

“From January 1, 2016, through November 12, 2016, according to figures provided by the Afghan government to USFOR-A, 6,785 ANDSF service members were killed and an additional 11,777 members were wounded,” the report said.
