Earthquake injures 9, damages 60 houses in Baghlan

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake hit Baghlan province in the north of Afghanistan on Wednesday night, injuring nine people and damaging 60 residential houses.

Mohammad Naseer Kohzad, Natural Disaster Management Director in Baghlan province, told Ariana News that the epicenter of the jolt was Hindu Kush mountains range, 14 kilometers far away from Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province.

He added that most of the affected houses are located in the vicinity of Pul-e-Khumri city.

According to the official, relevant governmental and non-governmental organizations have launched efforts to survey the affected areas in order to provide aid for the victims of the quake.

Local Taliban leaders, militants suffer heavy casualties in Baghlan

Dozens of Taliban militants including their local leaders were killed or wounded during the operations in northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan.

The 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan Military in the North in a statement said the militants were killed during the ground operations and airstrikes in Shash Kapi, Larkhabi, and Dand Shahabuddin areas of the province.

The statement further added that a total 36 militants were killed during the operations and at least 12 others sustained injuries.

More than 250 Afghan troops, 100 civilians killed during last week in Afghanistan

The last week massacre has resulted more than 250 Afghan troops and 100 civilians killed in all across Afghanistan, according to officials.

The Taliban group attacked Ghazni city during the last week, collapsed the military base of Allawoddin in Baghlan, Chinese base in Faryab and shot dead all of its surrounded soldiers.

Head of a voter registration center among 2 killed in Baghlan explosion

At least two people including the head of a voter registration center was killed in an explosion in an explosion in northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan.

According to the local officials, the incident took at around 11 am today in the outskirts of Puli Khumri city.

A Spokesman for the provincial security commandment Zabiullah Shuja confirmed the incident and said at least two people were killed and two others were wounded in the explosion.

Shuja further added that the head of the voter registratio center was among those killed.

Baghlanis stage protest, reject elderly governor

Hundreds of residents of northern Baghlan province on Monday staged a protest demonstration against the governor, calling him incompetent.

The demonstrators held a protest gathering in Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital, saying the current governor was an elderly man and unable to govern or administer the province.

They demanded a young and eligible governor for the province who could address people’s problems.

Ahmad Javed, one of the protestors, slammed the current governor as “inefficient person”, who had not yet served the province and should be replaced with an eligible person.

Kidnapped Afghan policemen kill 5 Taliban militants in Baghlan

Two Afghan policemen have broken a Taliban cell in northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan, leaving at least 5 militants dead.

According to the local government officials, the policemen were kept in a cell in Barak district.

Provincial police spokesman Zabiullah Shuja said the two policemen managed to break the Taliban jail after snatching the weapon of them and opening fire on the others.

He said at least five militants were killed and a clash a broke out after the other policemen arrived to support the two captives.

The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) are preparing to retake control of the lost Dahana-e-Ghori district in northern Baghlan province.

Local security officials are saying the operations will be launchd in Dahana-e-Ghori and Baghlan-e-Markazi districts in the near future.

Taliban takes control of Dahana-e-Ghori in North of Afghanistan

The Taliban militants have taken control of Dahana-e-Ghori district in northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan earlier tonight.

A provincial council member speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed the fall of the district.

The government security officials have not commented regarding the report so far.

The Taliban militants launched a coordinated attack on Dahana-e-Ghori district four days ago that led to heavy clashes in the area until the control of the district was fully taken earlier tonight.
