Protesters close IEC оffices in Faryab and Sar-e-Pul

Protest over the arrest of Nizamuddin Qaisari, a militia commander and a close to Vice President General Dostum entered its ninth day in northern Faryab and Sar-e-Pul provinces.   

The protesters on Wednesday shut down the provincial offices of the Independent Election Commission in Faryab and Sar-e-Pul provinces and warned the offices will remain closed until the government makes way for the return of VP Dostum and release of commander Qaisari.

“If our demands were not addressed, we will close the government institutions,” said Ehsanullah Qoyanj, head of Youths Council of Junbish Millie party.

Dostum Wearing Military Uniform, Fighting Rebels in Faryab

MAIMANA – The first vice-president Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum on Monday after wearing military uniform had been fighting rebels in northwestern Faryab province and leading the first military operation against insurgents.

Last week, Dostum during his trip to Faryab had said that he did not go there to create militia groups but he was guiding Afghan forces and local people against insurgents.

“I am in civil clothes with you. If Taliban do not stop fighting I would destroy them in civilian clothes,” Dostum had said. But today, he was in front of his forces in a military uniform.
