Afghan forces discover cache of weapons in Ghazni

Afghan National Army forces have discovered a cache of weapons and other military equipment in central Ghazni province, a local security official said Saturday.

The provincial police chief Ghulam Daoud Tarakhail said that the cache has been discovered at house of an individual identified as Tafan in an area near Ghazni City.

Tarakhail said that most of the discovered weapons and military equipment have come from Iran.

“The weapons are totally new and have been imported from Iran,” Tarakhail said.

Explosion foiled in Kabul city

The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces have foiled militant’s bid to carry out an explosion in Kabul city, the Kabul Security Commandment said.

According to a statement released by the Security Commandment of Kabul, the Afghan forces discovered and defused an improvised explosive device planted in the 9th police district of the city.

The statement further added that the improvised explosive device was planted close to a police check post in Abdul Haq square.

Taliban ambush Afghan Forces’ convoy in Faryab

The Taliban militants ambushed a convoy of Afghan military forces in northern Faryab province on Monday, killing at least three soldiers and wounding five others, officials said.

A statement by Shaheen Corps said that the Taliban began clashes with the security forces after their convoy hit a roadside mine in Ghormach district of the province.

Mohammad Tahir Rahmani, head of Faryab provincial council said that the convoy of Afghan forces being ambushed by the Taliban en route to Qaisar district of the province, adding that during the clashes both sides suffered heavy casualties.

The statement of Shaheen Corps, meanwhile, said that more than 50 Taliban insurgents including their two key commanders identified as Mullah Shawali and Mullah Qayoum were killed and 15 more were wounded in the clashes.

At least three Afghan soldiers were killed and five others were also injured in the incident.

U.S. airstrike kills Afghan Forces in Logar

An American airstrike killed more than ten Afghan security forces during intense fighting with the Taliban in Azra district of Logar province, official said Tuesday.

The chief district of Azra, Hamidullah told Ariananews that the security forces were killed after they called for air support from foreign forces.

Shamshad Larawi, a spokesman for the governor, said that American airstrikes had been called in for support, but that because of a misunderstanding, the planes mistakenly targeted an Afghan police outpost.

Resolute Support, NATO’s mission in Afghanistan, confirmed U.S. forces had conducted an air strike “in defense of Afghan forces” in Azra district but did not mention casualties.
