Taliban Confirms Mullah Mansoor’s Death, Announces Haibatullah As New Leader

The Taliban group released a statement on Wednesday morning confirming the group’s deceased leader Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour’s death and announced Mawlawi Haibatullah Akhundzada as their new leader.

The group also appointed Sirajuddin Haqqani and Mullah Omar’s son Mulah Yaqoob as deputies of supreme leader of the group.

Mullah Mansoor was killed in a US military air operation on Saturday in Pakistan’s Baluchistan province.

His death had been widely confirmed by internal and external officials.
