Afghan security forces have launched clearing operations in some areas of southern Ghazni province against militants, officials said Tuesday.
The operation named “Palang Sahra” or Desert Leopard was started in Dehyak district of the province since yesterday, the Provincial Governor’s Spokesman, Mohammad Arif Noori said.
At least 12 Taliban militants were killed and 16 other members of the group were wounded in the operation, he said. “The areas which were under the threat of armed oppositions being cleared,” he added.
According to Spokesman Noori, the military operation was extended to Jaghato district of the province on Tuesday morning.
The operation comes as the Taliban militants have intensified scale of attacks many district of the province, including an attack by the group in Andar district that left at least 30 dead civilians.
