Pakistan’s PM to visit Afghanistan for TAPI gas pipeline inauguration

The Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is due to visit Afghanistan for the inauguration of the Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India (TAPI) gas pipeline project.

According to the local media reports, Prime Minister Abbasi will be accompanied by the Energy Minister Kamal Khan during his visit to Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.

The Prime Minister House of Pakistan in a statement also confirmed Mr. Abbasi’s visit to Afghanistan and Turkmenistan for the inauguration ceremonies of the TAPI gas pipeline project.

A statement by the Prime Minister House stated that groundbreaking ceremonies of the project will be jointly attended by PM Abbasi, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Malikgulyevich Berdimuhamedov, President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani and Indian Minister of State for External Affairs MJ Akbar.

The statement further adds that the first leg of the ceremony will be held in Serhetabat, Turkmenistan.

The leaders of the four nations will then visit western Herat province of Afghanistan to participate in the second leg of the groundbreaking ceremony of the TAPI gas pipeline.

According to the Pakistani officials, PM Abbasi will also hold talks with the Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani at the end of the groundbreaking ceremony.
