Khalili said Taliban are not interested in peace and they do not want to start peace negotiations with government.
Taliban has not shown any indication that it will accept government’s peace offer, said Mohammad Karim Khalili, the chairman of the High Peace Council, on Saturday.
He said the group does not want to start negotiations with government.
During a trip to Herat province on Saturday, Khalili said if all the people are not involved in the peace process it will fail.
Addressing a gathering in the province, Khalili said Taliban will not be able to forge peace through its actions and that they will not surrender to government.
“I have repeatedly said and today I also say that … the Taliban will never surrender,” said Khalili.
The HPC chief also spoke of women’s rights and their status and said this will not be affected in any peace negotiations.
“Afghan women’s involvement (in peace) has increased from eight percent to 16 percent and we are trying to increase it to 22 percent soon,” Khalili said.
Herat governor Mohammad Asif Rahimi meanwhile said at the same event government has provided context for a ceasefire, for elections and for amending the constitution adding that these opportunities should not be wasted.
Rahimi said they are hopeful that the peace process succeeds.
Government’s peace offer notes that Taliban can start negotiations with government without any preconditions – and that government will even open an office in Kabul for the group and recognize it as a political group if they renounce violence.
