Taliban storm Ghazni City; heavy clashes ongoing

Sources from Ghazni province say that heavy clashes are ongoing between government forces and Taliban in Ghazni City – in the center of Afghanistan – 148 kilometers southwest of Kabul.

Taliban has said in a statement that the group has stormed Ghazni City from different sides.

Sources said that Kabul-Ghazni Highway has been closed to traffic following heavy fighting between government forces and Taliban.

Hamidullah Nawrozi, member of Ghazni Provincial Council, told TOLOnews that “Ghazni city will fall to the Taliban if reinforcements were not sent”.

ISIS attack repulsed in North of Afghanistan, 9 militants killed, 13 wounded

A major attack by the militants affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria /ISIS) terrorist group was repulsed in northern Jawzjan province of Afghanistan, leaving several militants dead or wounded.

The 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Arnmy in thr North said a large group of ISIS militants launched a large scale attack in Darzad district but their attack was repulsed by the security forces.

The source further added that nine militants were killed and thirteen others were wounded after the Afghan forces responded to the militants attack.

According to Shaheen Corps, the attack was launched on security posts of the Afghan National defense and security forces but did not elaborate further if the Afghan forces suffered any casualty or not.

The anti-government armed militant and terrorist groups have not commented regarding the report so far.

Heavy explosion rocks Kabul city

A heavy explosion rocked Kabul city earlier today leaving scores of people dead or wounded.

The blast took place close to the old compound of the ministry of interior of Afghanistan.

Security sources confirm the blast has taken place in the vicinity of Sedarat area and close to the old compound of the ministry of interior.

Public health ministry officials are saying that 95 dead bodies and 163 injured people have been shifted to the hospital so far.

A security official had earlier said that the blast has likely left around 20 people dead and over 100 others wounded.

Coordinated attack on Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul city

A group of insurgents have launched a coordinated attack on Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul city as the security officials are saying that efforts are underway to eliminate the assailants.

The Ministry of Interior spokesman Najib Danish confirmed that the ministry has received reports regarding the death of five people so far while six others have been wounded during the attack.

He said two of the attackers have been shot dead by the security forces and the clearance operations are underway to eliminate the remaining militants.

The eyewitnesses in the area earlier said that a section of the hotel has also caught fire and there are fears that some people have also been killed or wounded in the attack.
