Former NSA Spanta backs call for convening Loya Jirga

Former National Security Advisor in the last government, Rangeen Dadfar Spanta has backed call for convening Loya Jirga, a traditional grand assembly of elders.

Speaking at an event in Kabul on Sunday, Spanta said that the country is an “emergency” situation and it needs urgent solution to resolve the existing crisis, adding that the only possible way in regard is to form a national grand assembly.

The call for convening Loya Jirga was first suggested by Former President Hamid Karzai last month, when he criticized the U.S. President Trump’s Afghanistan strategy and asserted that it does not bring “a message of peace” but instead increases war and fuels regional rivalries over his war-torn country.
