Munitions cache of heavy weapons discovered in Kabul city

The Afghan security forces have confiscated a cache containing ammunition for heavy weapons during an operation in Kabul city.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials said the cache was discovered during an operation in the vicinity of the 13th police district of the city.

The officials further added that the Afghan forces confiscated three rounds of 822mm mortar, two artillery rounds, six rounds of heavy anti-aircraft gun munitions, and seven other type of mortar rounds from the cache.

MPs Concerned Over Hizb-e-Islami’s Refusal To Give Up Arms

Hizb-e-Islami says its men need to be armed as their safety is not guaranteed but that they will not turn their weapons on government.

Gulbuddin Hekmatyar’s Hizb-e-Islami members have so far refused to hand over their weapons, which has in turn sparked concern among MPs.

This comes after Hekmatyar and his men officially returned to Afghanistan early this month after the group’s leader sealed a peace deal with government last year.

Despite Hizb-e-Islami having assured the nation that their armed men will not turn their weapons on government, MPs on Wednesday raised the issue and voiced their concerns.
