The High Peace Council Secretariat Chief and Special Presidential Adviser on political affairs Mohammad Akram Khpwalwak has resigned from his positions.

In his resignation letter to President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Khpwalwak has said he will step down as High Peace Council Secretariat Chief and Special Presidential Adviser on political affairs.

However, Khpalwak said he remains committed to his commitments he has made to the President and would continue supporting the country, nation, and peace efforts.

Deputy Afghan FM Hekmat Karzai resigns citing ‘serious opinion differences’

The Deputy Afghan Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai has resigned from his position citing the existence of ‘serious opinion differences’ with the government of national unity.

In his resignation letter to President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Mr. Karzai has said he would prefer to remain alongside the people and resign from his position due to the existing differences in opinions with the government’s leadership.

Karzai further added that the existing differences have limited the working space for him to continue to his work for the national benfits of the country.

Defense ministry retires another 61 generals from service

The Defense Ministry (MoD) has retired another 61 army generals from service in line with a presidential decree, the ministry said in a statement on Monday.

The generals were retired during a ceremony attending by high-ranking government officials at the Defense Ministry.

Praising the role and work of the retired generals in rehabilitation and training of the country’s military forces, Chief of Army Staff Mohammad Sharif Yaftali said: “History and the people of Afghanistan will never forget your performance and work for stability and security of the country.”

At the same event, the Defense Minister Tariq Shah Bahrami said that retirement is a normal administrative process that based on the law applied to civil and military personnel.

Farah Governor Resigns In Wake Of Protest

Mohammad Arif Shahjahan, Farah’s provincial governor, on Thursday stepped down following Wednesday’s protests over the deteriorating security in the province.

Shahjahan said that he has resigned due to the increase in insecurity and a split in opinion between residents over the security situation in the province.

Shahjahan has called on the National Unity Government (NUG) to appoint a new governor.
This comes after a source said at least six people were wounded in a shooting during a demonstration outside the governor’s building on Wednesday.

The angry crowd had tried to enter the governor’s building when police fired on them.

Jamiat-e-Islami condemns Ghani’s decision regarding Balkh governor

The Jamiat-e-Islami led by acting foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani strongly condemned the decision of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani regarding the acceptance of Balkh governor Ata Mohammad Noor’s resignation.

The party in a statement said the decision regarding Balkh governor’s resignation has been taken hastily and called it a irresponsible move and against the stability and current sitaution of the country.

The statement further added that Jamiat-e-Islami strongly condemns the decision and calls it a move against the principles of the agreement of the government of national unity.

This comes as the Office of the President in a statement had earlier said Mr. Noor had resigned from his position as the governor of Balkh province a while ago.
